The Intel 80579 (Tolapai) footprint when compared to the standard four-chip design is reduced by approximately 45 percent. Because it takes less power to drive electrons through its smaller traces, power consumption is reduced approximately 20 percent. Throughput performance and processor efficiency are increased. The on-die inclusion of Intel® QuickAssist Integrated Accelerator technology further enhances performance and power efficiency. In addition to the CPU/MCH/ICH and QuickAssist integration, Tolapai includes an IXP Network Processor Engine (NPE) on die. This density positions the chip to serve converged applications, such as IP PBX where its resultant high through translates to low latency.

The PL-8000 is a 1U rack-mounted hardware platform designed for networking applications. Built with Intel® Embedded IA components with warranty of longevity, the PL-8000 supports Intel® EP80579 Integrated SoC with QuickAssist security accelerator. Compared with three-chip solutions, Intel® EP80579 offers more application specific performance in less space. The platform supports SoC core speeds that range from 600MHz to 1.2 GHz, high bandwidth DDRII DIMM slot with memory up to 2GB and a full set of VPN functions such as encryption, hashing and public/private key generation. In order to provide the best network performance and best utilization, the powerful storage interfaces include one 3.5" SATA HDD and CompactFlash™
The PL-8000 platform affords five GbE Copper and max of 8 GbE Ethernet ports via PCI-E by 1 or by 4 on front-panel. To prevent network problems when the platform shuts down, PL-8000 supports one segment of LAN bypass function through WDT and GPIO pin definitions. The front panel also has one USB 2.0 port, one RJ-45 console port and LED indicators that monitor power and storage device activities for local system management, maintenance and diagnostics. In addition, the PL-8000 supports two PCI-E by4 slots. The unit is RoHS, FCC and CE compliant.
